MERRY CHRISTMAS

We little elves at Mopsland have been busy looking after puppies. We have established that all of them have been nice and none naughty! However they have been very time consuming.

So we are taking a little break to,

WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND A
HAPPY, PUG FILLED, NEW YEAR.

Padme's pups feeding at day two

This is a small video of Padme's pups feeding less than 48 hours after birth. You can see the determination in hanging on to the teats. You can also see Padme's suture line, neat and tidy thanks to the very professional team of vet's we use.

Pug Puppies- 'In the begining'

Pug's are not like other dogs. Even as puppies the differences are extreme. Pug puppies require assistance every step of the the way.

Over the first few days, usually following a c-section, Pug puppies require attention every one and a half hours. That means we need someone to sit with the mother and place each pup on a teat and make sure the mum doesn't roll onto the pup. (If left alone with the pups, as one would with other breeds, pug mums would love their entire litter of puppies to death in about two days.)

After the feeding, which takes between one half to one hour, each and every puppy needs to be toileted. This entails using a tissue to stimulate urination and defecation. The litter then go back into a modified human humidicrib and the cycle starts again.

After the first few days the feeds are spaced out to 2 hourly and after seven days the timing is increased to three hour breaks during the night and two during the day.

Of course between feeds the humidicrib needs to be cleaned and the mum needs special food prepared. This all occurs in addition to the normal care of the kennel, so please be patient while we care for your puppy. We might not always get right back to you when you leave a message. It's not that we don't care about you, it's just that we put your puppy first and we might not have slept for a while.
